Babysitters arrested after toddler found in yard, police say

Two people were arrested Tuesday after the 2-year-old boy they were babysitting made his way out of the house and into a yard near a busy highway, authorities said.

Tamara Degarmo, 29, and Adam Cole, 18, are each facing a charge of endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to a Pulaski County sheriff's office report, the pair was babysitting the toddler at a residence at 23801 Arkansas 107 outside Jacksonville when the boy "escaped the house and was unattended in the front yard." The child was wearing only a diaper.

"The boy was exposed to the elements and had access to a busy state highway," authorities wrote in the report.

Police say the boy was outside about 10 minutes.

Degarmo and Cole remained the Pulaski County jail Wednesday morning with bail set at $1,000 each. Each has a Feb. 18 court date set.
