McDaniel names Hampton to Arkansas Ethics Commission

Former Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation president and long-time educator Sybil Jordan Hampton has been appointed to the Arkansas Ethics Commission, Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office announced in a news release Wednesday.

Hampton, 69, a Little Rock native who graduated from Central High School in 1962 as the first black student to attend 10th, 11th and 12 grades there, retired from the Rockfeller Foundation in 2006 as president emeritus.

Hampton’s term on the commission will run to 2019. She replaces Rev. J. Barrington Minix, Sr.

“Dr. Hampton has spent her lifetime serving the public in the fields of education and philanthropy, and I am grateful for her willingness to continue to serve the people of Arkansas on the Ethics Commission," McDaniel said in a statement.

Hampton serves on multiple boards, including the Little Rock Club, the Blue and You Foundation of Arkansas Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging Community Advisory Board.

The ethics commission most recently was responsible for issuing $11,000 in fines against Lt. Gov. Mark Darr, who announced he would resign his post effective Feb. 1.
