Gun in pizza box lands felon in jail

A 23-year-old felon was arrested Wednesday after police stopped his vehicle and found a gun hidden in a pizza box, authorities said.

Kristopher D. Mayo remained in the Pulaksi County jail Thursday morning on a charge of possession of a firearm by certain persons. Bail had not yet been set.

According to a North Little Rock police report, officer stopped Mayo's pickup shortly before 11 p.m. in the 2500 block of Franklin Street because it had objects hanging from the rearview mirror obstructing the driver's view.

Police then learned Mayo's license was suspended and that there was a warrant from Pulaski County out for his arrest, the report said. During a subsequent inventory of the truck, officers found a handgun inside a pizza box that was on the seat, police wrote.

The report noted Mayo was convicted of a felony in August of 2012. He's due in court later Thursday morning.
