Hurst announces run for state House

Little Rock City Director Stacy Hurst said Thursday that she will run for the Arkansas House of Representatives as a Republican.

Hurst will seek the District 35 seat held now by term-limited state Rep. John Edwards, D-Little Rock.

Hurst was elected to the city board in 2002 and reelected in 2006 and 2010, serving as vice mayor in 2007 and 2008.

"During my time as a nonpartisan member of the city board, I have learned that being an independent voice is the best way to represent government," she said in a statement. "I've shown that I am willing to listen to all opinions and make the best decisions for the people I represent."

Little Rock Democrat Joseph “Jodie” Mahony previously told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette he planned to run for the seat. Several others also said they were considering a run.
