80-year-old tried to cut nephew with knife, police say

An 80-year-old North Little Rock man tried to cut his nephew with a knife during an argument Thursday, authorities said.

Merron Crutchfield was booked into the Pulaski County jail, where he remained Friday morning with bail not yet set. He faces a charge of first-degree assault on a family or household member.

Police say Crutchfield got into an argument with his nephew about 11:30 a.m. at the residence they share in the 1400 block of North Olive Street.

According to a North Little Rock police report, Crutchfield at one point took a knife out of his pocket and began waving it toward the nephew's face with the blade extended.

Police say the nephew was able to physically hold Crutchfield down until officers arrived.

"[The victim] stated that Merron would have cut him if he hadn't stopped him," police wrote in the report.

The report didn't indicate what started the argument.

Crutchfield is due in court Tuesday.
