JAMES EDWARD JOHNSON passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 14, 2014. Ed was born Nov. 7, 1929 in Manning, Ark., to the late James Clifton Johnson and Ora DeLamar Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 62years, Sunny (Horne) Johnson; and five children, Dana Brasel (Michael) of Harrison, Ark., Monica Wooten (Randy) of Shawnee, Kan., Mona Hewitt (Earl) of Henrico, Va., Jeff Johnson (Jan) of Little Rock, and Kerry Johnson (Glenda) of Maumelle. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ed was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Little Rock where he served as a deacon. He previously attended Second Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1956 at the age of 26. He served his country during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant from 1952-1953. Ed also served in the Arkansas National Guard and the Arkansas Army Reserve reaching the rank of Colonel. He worked for the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Dept. from 1953 until retirement in 1988.

KATHRYN KENDALL BUCKLEY PICKENS died peacefully at Arkansas Baptist Hospital on January 15, 2014. She was born in Arkadelphia to J.O. Buckley and Frances Kathryn DeLamar Buckley on August 26, 1944.

She is survived by her children, John Marshall Pickens and his wife, Karen; Kendall Lynne Pickens Jacobs and her husband, John; and Andrew Buckley Pickens; grandchildren, Stephen Andrew Pickens, Lillian Buckley Jacobs, Helen Kendall Jacobs, and Olivia Nola Pickens and Andrew Thrash Pickens; her brother, J.O. Buckley; and devoted friend and caregiver, John Leftwich.

She lived for a period in Pickens where she became the first female Chairman of the Board of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered her time at The Jodie Partridge Center, a special education school in Dumas. In the early 1970s she moved to Little Rock and became a pioneer of the restoration movement in the Quapaw district of downtown Little Rock with her business, Restoration Associates, rescuing several historic homes from ruin. A passionate volunteer, Kenny gave her time to the Arkansas Arts Center. She will be remembered for her generous hospitality and friendships, brilliant creativity, culinary genius, and her grand sense of humor.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate her memory will be held on Sunday, 3 p.m., January 19, at the home of Mary Sue and Johnny Jacobs at 1 Sunset Drive in the Cammack Village neighborhood of Little Rock. Mr. CHARLES E. REAVES SR., 88, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Charles was born in Cheyenne, Oklahoma July 6, 1925, to the late Claude and Minnie Travis Reaves. Charles, his siblings and parents moved to Batesville,Ark., in 1931 where he attended Batesville High School.

Charles Reaves was preceded in death by his wife Eugenia May Reaves of over 64 years (November 16, 1946-December 14, 2010). He is survived by their son, Charles “Chuck” Reaves, Jr. of Little Rock; and his sister, Jo Ann Platt of North Little Rock.

Charles served his country, proudly enlisted in the Army Military Police at Fort Lewis at Tacoma, Washington and in San Francisco during World War II. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1968 as a Master Sergeant.

After the war Charles and May were married. He worked for the Corp of Engineers from 1944-1984, where he retired as an E-9.

On their 50th wedding anniversary, Charles and May celebrated it with their son Chuck on a trip to California. Their nieces, Dana Traywick of Hot Springs and Lisa Miller of Denton, Texas, also helped them celebrate their 50th at the home of Dean and Dana Traywick in Hot Springs. They also enjoyed eating out at the Golden Corral and Western Sizzlin of Jacksonville.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. Funeral services will be Monday, January 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Collins and Rev. Jeremy Pressgrove. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

AMBER RENEE SCHILLER, 35, passed away on January 15,2014. She was born in Lansing, Mich., to Kim Schiller of Reston, Va., and Tamara Anseth Schiller of Little Rock. She is survived by her partner Marcus Wimberley and her son, Cypress Wolfe Wimberley.

Her loss is deeply mourned by her parents; her grandmother, Helen E. Briesacher of Little Rock; her sister Jennifer Blue and husband Marcus, and her beloved nieces, Xavia and Skyy Blue; and her sister Lauren, husband Henry Murphy, and nephew Nikolai Murphy-Schiller all of Little Rock.

Amber was a citizen of the hip-hop nation and she loved, supported, and celebrated many musicians, entertainers and artists during her life.

BENTON - Patricia L. “Patty” (Ryan) Brookins, 66, of Bentonpassed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. Predeceased in death by parents Nolan and Hazel Ryan of Benton, Ark. She retired from Baptist Health after 35 years of nursing and has practiced nursing for 44 years. She was of the Baptist faith. BRYANT - Ruth Audrey Sandel Wilson, 85, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014. Mrs. Wilson was born Feb. 23, 1928, the daughter of Henry Adrian and Ruth Doherty Sandel. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Natchez, Miss. She was known throughout her life as “Lulu.” She was totally dedicated to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to all who knew her. Lulu loved fishing, gardening, traveling, crafts, playing bridge, bingo and playing the slots.

Preceding Lulu in death were her parents; two brothers, William Lloyd Sandel and Henry Adrian “Sonny” Sandel; her sister, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Sandel Smith; her eldest son, Joseph Douglas Wilson Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Laurie Varice Jones Wilson. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Douglas Wilson of Bryant, Ark.; and four children, Walter Richard Wilson and wife, Toni, of Tyler, Texas; Deborah Ann Wilson McNeill of Tiki Island, Texas; William Lloyd Wilson of Bryant, Texas; and Marie Elizabeth Wilson of Tiki Island, Texas. Additional survivors are five grandchildren, Mary Christine Hining of Benton, Ark., Ira Jonathan Wood and his wife, Erica, of Katy, Texas, Walter Kyle Wilson of Tyler, Texas, William Joseph Arteak Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark., Kelsey Kathleen Wilson of Tyler, Texas; one great-grandchild, Connor Andrew Smith. She is also survived by two brothers, Lewie Sandel and Walter Sandel and wife, Peggy; one sister, Freda Sandel Stallone and husband, Meno; two sisters-inlaw, Frances Wilson Boyd, and Mary Wilson Dick and husband, Keller; and many nieces and nephews.

CLINTON - Leslie Jan Pilkington, 62, of Clinton, Ark., passed away Jan. 4, 2014. Born Feb. 3, 1951, to the late Fred and Ruth Hughes Younts in Little Rock. She was a CNA at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla., before moving to Clinton and was active in Pee Dee Baptist and Corner Stone Baptist Churches. Her favorite things to do were caring for her children and talking to her family, which she did daily.

Leslie is survived by her children, Matthew Bevans and Stacey of Little Rock, Mark Pilkington of Clinton and Paige Pilkington of Tampa, Fla. Leslie was also survived by a sister, Scarlet Knipper of Little Rock; and grandchildren, Emily Pilkington, Haley Thorton and Bailey Bevans; as well asans; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

CONWAY - Jessie M. Cheney, 88, of Conway died Jan. 14, 2014.Mrs. Cheney was a Registered Nurse serving veterans for over 30 years with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock. She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Lockhart Rapp; husband, Dwight Leroy Cheney; one sister, two brothers; and by her son Brian’s life partner, Jef Duncan. She was the beloved mother to her son, Brian Cheney of Conway; two daughters, Margaret Beth Brady (Dickie) of Conway; Kathryn Cheney-Egan (John) of Chicago, Ill. She was the beloved grandmother to her four grandchildren, Samantha Brady, Mary Brady, Christi Brady, Rachel Cheney-Egan. FORT SMITH - Reverend Lowe Stone, 79, of Ft. Smith,Ark., was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Jan. 14, 2014. He was born in Altheimer, Ark., on July 9, 1934, to A.M. and Elizabeth Stone.

Survivors include his faithful wife of over 56 years,Beverly Jones Stone; daughters, Becky McKee, Debby Stone Crouse; sons, Bobby Stone, Toney Stone; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Juanita Bowen, Jeanne Kelly, June (Allen) Shockley; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Stone, Pam Jones, Floy Stone; brother-in-law, Elton (Tommie) Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends from previous pastorates.

HEBER SPRINGS - Nikki Rust, 42, one of the world’s most gentle souls, passed away from pneumonia on Jan. 11, 2014. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend. We are heartbroken from losing her way too early. She will be deeply missed.

IDA - Bynum Doyal Holliman, age 89, passed away Wednesday. LONOKE - Jerry L. White of Lonoke passed away on Tuesday,January 14, 2014. Jerry was born on November 29, 1943, to John Henry and Marie Hoover White in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. He was a Communication Center Specialist in the U.S. Air Force as he served from1963 to 1967. He worked with Gulf Oil Distributors for approximately 15 years through the North Little Rock terminal. He was an owner-operator for Bruce Oakley Trucking of North Little Rock for approximately 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry White. He is survived by his wife, Joyce. Jerry and Joyce were married for 47 years. He is also survived by his mother, Marie Hoover White; sons, Jay White and Kenny St. John; daughters, Julie Gardner of Lonoke and Kem Smith of Greenville, Miss.; granddaughter, Jessica Gardner of Lonoke; three brothers, Darrah White (Nancy), Dean White of Lonoke, Johnny White of Cabot; three sisters, Cherry Southerland (Jimmy), Beverly Clement (Jimbo) of Lonoke, Becky Shook (Lee) of Cabot; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was a member of Central Arkansas Horseshow Association and was an avid horseman. He was also a member of the Boto and Wild Bunch Hunting Clubs in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and uncle. He loved his family, friends, riding in horse shows and hunting. He loved the “Monday Family Nights at Ma-Maws.” He always had a calm gentle spirit and full of joy and laughter. He was a prankster! He was a great blessing to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jerry White Memorial Fund at Bank of England.

SEARCY - Frank Price, 85, of Searcy, Arkansas, was bornNovember 7, 1928, at Hickory Plains, Arkansas, to Frank and Tillie (Alverson) Price, and he departed this life Wednesday, January 15, 2014. His career with the U.S. Air Force includedservice during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and taught ROTC at Judson High School at Converse, Texas. Frank was an avid golfer, loved to read and loved the Razorbacks! He spent many years compassionately caring for many family members. He was a Presbyterian and attended First Presbyterian Church of Beebe.

Dorothy Faye Smart McClendon was called to her heavenly home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. She was the daughter of Rufus and Vera Smart and was born at home in Stephens, Arkansas, on October 1, 1928. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rudy, and her loving husband of 53 years, Coach Charles McClendon.

As a devoted wife, she was an incredible asset to her husband in many ways. This extraordinary hostess had a joyful gift for making everyone feel part of her family. She genuinely valued people and had a special concern to help other coaches’ wives survive and thrive in their important roles. She was part of the initial inspiration to establish the American Football Coaches Wives Association 25 years ago. This group still gathers annually from across the nation to offer mutual support and special encouragement to wives of football coaches.

She was an amazing mother to a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and John Alberty, Baton Rouge, and a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Carolyn McClendon, Orlando, Fla.; three grandsons, Dr. J. Brannon Alberty and wife Stephanna, Baton Rouge (five great-grandchildren: Ellie, Reki, Katie Faye, Mac, and Suri Alberty); Bret Alberty, New York City, Ben Alberty and wife Leslie, San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her sister-inlaw, Mary Frances Smart of Hot Springs, Ark.
