Six Conway teens arrested in vehicle break-in

Six teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 18 were arrested Thursday night after they were caught breaking into at least one vehicle in Conway, authorities said Friday.

The suspects were caught about 9 p.m., when officers were alerted to an area around South Mitchell and Hillman streets in regard to some people wearing hooded sweatshirts who were “looking into” vehicles, the Conway Police Department said in a statement.

Police arrived to find six teens there, and two 18-year-olds in the group told a officers they were “on their way home” when they came across a group of youths breaking into cars, police say.

An investigation revealed several items, including a wallet, sunglasses and a GPS device, lying on the ground near where a suspected car break-in occurred, police said. Those items were later found to have been stolen out of a car on Mitchell Street. A stolen iPhone was also recovered at the scene from one of the suspects, police said.

Police arrested the two 18-year-old men, Cordario Williams and Stevie Brown, along with the four minors. All six have been charged with breaking and entering, Conway Police Department spokesman Officer LeTresha Woodruff said.

Williams and Brown were taken to the Faulkner County jail, while three of the teenagers were released to their parents, police said. The fourth teenager was taken to a juvenile detention facility over a probation violation.

Conway police said they are investigating whether the teens were responsible for other car break-ins around the city.
