Jonesboro woman killed, 4 hurt in collision

One person was killed and four others, including a 3-year-old child, were hurt in a collision Thursday in Craighead County, police said.

Astrid Sanders, 24, was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion north on U.S. 63 north of the Poinsett County line when the car crossed the centerline and hit a southbound Chevy Impala shortly before 6 p.m., according to an Arkansas State Police accident report.

A passenger in the Fusion, 82-year-old Maria Hernandez of Jonesboro, died at the scene. Another passenger, 3-year-old Seth Sanders, was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

Astrid Sanders, also of Jonesboro, and two adult occupants of the Impala were taken by ambulance to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

The report didn't specify what may have caused the Fusion to cross the line. Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time.

The death marked the 14th fatality in a traffic accident so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
