Bodies found in fire investigated as homicides, sheriff says

Authorities say they are investigating the deaths of a man and woman found in a fire in Pope County last week as homicides.

Pope County Sheriff Aaron DuVall said in a statement Tuesday that the identities of the victims and the cause of death have not yet been confirmed by the state Crime Lab. But he said investigators believe they already know those details.

“We are confident that we know who the victims are and how they died," DuVall wrote. "However, we are awaiting confirmation from the M.E.’s Office on the actual cause of death and identification. At this time we, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police, are investigating this case as a homicide.”

The bodies were found Thursday morning after fire crews extinguished a blaze at a structure on Arkansas 7 north of Dover.
