Adkison named Henderson State provost

Henderson State University has named an Oregon university administrator as its new provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Stephen Adkison, who serves as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Ore., will at Henderson State start July 1, Henderson President Glen Jones said. He was selected after a nationwide search.

As provost, Adkison will be Henderson's chief academic officer and will be responsible for supervising academic programs; promotions and tenure decisions; academic strategy and development of university policies and goals, Jones said.

“Henderson State University is an exceptional institution with a distinguished history as Arkansas’s public liberal arts university,” Adkison said. He added that he and his family are “looking forward to joining Henderson’s long tradition as The School with a Heart and becoming part of the Reddie community and are delighted to be moving to Arkadelphia.”

Adkison holds a bachelor's degree in English and teaching from Montana State University; a master's degree in English and writing and a Ph.D. in English/rhetoric and composition, both from the University of Nevada-Reno. Before working at Eastern Oregon, Adkison held several positions at Idaho State University and at University of Nevada-Reno.
