Shopper Connie Walker works her way through the produce section while shopping at the Argenta Market grocery store in North Little Rock on April 15, 2010.

Argenta Market, the community grocery store which opened in downtown North Little Rock in 2010, will shut down next month, the business announced Wednesday.

The market, located at 521 Main St., said on its Facebook page that it will close its doors Feb. 8.

"We want to sincerely thank all of our customers and friends for their unwavering support of Argenta Market," the statement said. "During the last 3 years we have seen phenomenal changes in Argenta, and we are confident that Argenta will continue to grow and expand."

An official who answered the phone at the business Wednesday afternoon declined comment beyond the statement, adding she couldn't speak on whether the market would look to reopen.

The posting noted that the Argenta neighborhood is home to continued development, including a soon-to-open Laman Library branch in the old post office, new apartments, a plan for a new plaza across from the business and several new or relocated businesses.

"Although we are excited about all the activity, it is clear that Argenta Market in its current iteration is not the answer to the needs of the residents and businesses in Argenta," the statement said. "We are confident that Argenta Market Version 2.0 will be better than before."

The market had its grand opening in April 2010.
