Sherwood police work the scene of a domestic disturbance where officers shot a man who was armed with two handguns, authorities said.

The suspect shot by police during a Wednesday morning domestic disturbance in Sherwood has been publicly identified.

Crandle Hopson is currently in stable condition at a local hospital after being shot at least once in the upper body by a responding police officer around 7 a.m. at the front door of the home at 106 Tenkiller Drive.

Hopson is charged with aggravated assault on a family member and three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

The news release also states that the officer who shot Hopson is currently on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for an investigation of this nature. The officer's name is not being released at this time.

Sgt. Michael Payne said Wednesday that the disturbance reportedly was "involving alcohol."

"As they arrived, the suspect came to the door, had a weapon in both hands," Payne said. "He refused officers' commands to put the weapon down. After several attempts, the suspect pointed the weapon at the officers who did shoot the suspect."

An ambulance left the scene with Hopson about 7:30 a.m.

Payne said situations like this one are difficult for responding officers.

"It's a very scary subject when you walk up and somebody comes to the door and you're faced with that with no place to go," he said,

During the investigation, police blocked off the street in both directions, allowing residents to leave but not return. Detectives, meanwhile, investigated behind crime scene tape around the home.

Payne said it wasn't clear who reported the disturbance or whether the man was a resident of the home.
