Store worker assaulted over bag of potato chips

Police were called to the scene of a fight at south Little Rock gas station on Wednesday night that began when someone tried to steal a bag of potato chips, Little Rock police said.

Officers were called at 11:39 p.m. to the Hess gas station, 7715 Geyer Springs Road, after an employee noticed a customer put a bag of chips under his shirt, according to a police report. The employee confronted the customer, taking the bag out from under his shirt. The man then punched the employee, striking him on the chin, and ran out of the store, police said. The employee refused medical attention when authorities arrived.

Police described the customer as black, 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, wearing a brown coat; officers searched the area for him but didn't find him.

While authorities were at the scene, a woman identified as Eleacia Counts drove up and asked “if her son had been arrested” and told officers she had “received a call from her son[s] girlfriend,” according to the report. She refused to give authorities any information on her son, police said. It was unclear in the report if the woman was related to the man involved in the case.
