I-40 lane closures near NLR set for Tuesday

The state Highway and Transportation Department said Friday that it has set a lane closure for next week for research work on Interstate 40 near North Little Rock.

Crews will perform drilling operations between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday to test the soil beneath the road, which will require closing the westbound, inside lane between mile markers 145 and 146 just west of the I-40/I-430 interchange.

The work was initially scheduled for today but had to be rescheduled because crew hired to do the work became ill.

The research work is a part of preparations to widen I-40 to six lanes between Arkansas 365 and I-430.

That project includes modifying the Interstate 430 interchange, the department said. The work is scheduled for bid later this year.

Highway officials ask motorists to be alert and cautious when traveling through construction zones.
