Pope County sheriff: Inmate dead from 'natural causes'

A woman accused of second-degree murder died while she was in custody at the Pope County Sheriff's Department, authorities said Saturday afternoon.

About 10:32 p.m. Friday, deputies found 52-year-old Danetta Star unresponsive, Pope County Sheriff Aaron Duvall said. He said that a coroner's initial investigation showed Star had died of natural causes.

Star was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 86-year-old Cecil Gray, Duvall said. Her bond had been set at $300,000, and she had been in custody since September.

Star's body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Little Rock, Duvall said.
