Searcy police say shooting victim is in stable condition

Searcy police said Saturday morning that a man is now in stable condition after he was shot in the JC Penney parking lot the night before.

About 7 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a shooting report at the J.C. Penney parking lot, 301 N. Poplar St., where they found Shane Looney, 40, of Searcy, suffering from one gunshot wound in his stomach, the Searcy Police Department said in a statement.

The police department's spokesman Corporal Steve Hernandez told Arkansas Online that Looney was taken to the White County Medical Center and now is in recovery from his surgery.

Hernandez said police have not identified any suspects as of Saturday morning.

According to the news release, Looney had planned to meet with someone in the J.C. Penney parking lot to sell a ring that he had listed on Craigslist.com.

"Sometime after meeting the suspects, the victim was shot in the stomach," the release states.

The suspects involved in the shooting are described as two black men and one black woman who had driven away in a black car, police said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police department's Criminal Investigation Division at (501) 268-3531.
