LR police: Boy suffers accidental gunshot wound to face

A boy is in stable condition after police said his friend had accidentally shot him on Saturday night, a Little Rock Police Department spokesman said in a statement.

About 7:47 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a residence located at 4107 W. 17th St. in reference to a shooting, the department's spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said. When police arrived, they found an unidentified boy suffering from a gunshot wound on the side of his face.

Witnesses told officers that the boy was accidentally shot by a friend, who fled the area before police arrived, police said. They said the victim owned the gun that his friend had shot him with.

"His friend was 'playing' with it when it 'went off' accidentally striking [the victim] in the face," Allen said.

Police said the boy was taken to the Arkansas Children's Hospital where he has been listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
