Police say NLR man assaulted girlfriend

A North Little Rock man knocked his girlfriend to the ground, dragged her down a hallway and began choking her Friday night, police said.

Zedric Long, 22, knocked a plate of food out of his girlfriend’s hand, then pushed her to the ground, according to an arrest report.

The woman told police she couldn’t breathe, according to the report.

Long, of 800 N. Beech St., was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member.

He was taken to Pulaski County jail, where he remained Saturday in lieu of $15,000 bond.

Shots hospitalize 2 in west Little Rock

Two people were hospitalized after being shot Saturday night in a west Little Rock neighborhood off John Barrow Road.

Police spokesman Lt.

Sidney Allen said officers responded to the shooting at Elam and West 33rd streets at 6:35 p.m. A bloody T-shirt and several bullet casings were visible at the scene, which was cordoned off while police investigated. Further details about the incident were not released by police, but residents said a group of men was hanging out in the area before about eight gunshots were fired.

Cyrus Scott said after he heard gunfire and someone yelling, he and a neighbor rushed outside and found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound on his head. Scott said he and the neighbor applied pressure to the wound, and when paramedics arrived, the victim had a faint pulse.

That victim’s condition was unknown late Saturday. Scott said the other victim was a teenage boy he knows from the neighborhood.

A police broadcast said the boy was about 16, and that he’d been shot in the buttocks and was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for treatment. His condition was also unknown. The boy ran several blocks east to his home on Boyd Street after being injured, according to the broadcast.

A description of the gunman was unavailable late Saturday. Residents said the men seen before the shooting are in a car club together.

An investigation is ongoing.
