Additional charges expected for suspects in Searcy shooting

Two suspects arrested after a high-speed chase on Saturday will now face additional charges for their connection with a shooting at outside a Searcy department store.

Johnny Patton, 27 and Amanda Hampton, 27, both of Arlington, Texas, face multiple charges as a result of the Friday night shooting in the parking of the J.C. Penney, 301 N. Poplar St., that left one man with a gunshot wound to his stomach, according to statement from the Searcy Police Department.

Shane Looney, 40, told police he had arranged to meet with Patton and Hampton in the parking lot to sell a ring he had listed on Craigslist.com. Looney was last said to be in stable condition on Friday.

Patton and Hampton both will be charged with first-degree battery. Patton also faces a charge of aggravated robbery, while Hampton will be charged with accomplice to aggravated robbery. A third suspect in the case will not be charged, according to the news release.

Patton, Hampton and a third unnamed individual were taken into custody Saturday after they led authorities on a high-speed chase that began on Interstate 30 in Hempstead County and ended in east Texas.

Patton and Hampton are awaiting extradition back to Searcy, authorities said.
