Church, gym to move into old K-Mart building in LR

A church and a gym will move into a Little Rock property that was formerly occupied by a K-Mart store, officials said in a statement Monday afternoon.

The Mosaic Church of Central Arkansas and 10 Fitness will occupy the commercial building on the corner of South University Avenue and Colonel Glenn Road before the end of the year, said Ron Copeland, director of the University District at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The new occupants are a "welcome development" for the district after K-Mart closed and the building fell into a "decade of disrepair," he said.

"We have known for some time that Mosaic Church was going to use the space, but I think 10 Fitness is probably the largest private development the University District has seen in several years," Copeland said.

The Mosaic Church purchased the 10-acre commercial space in December 2012, according to a news release. 10 Fitness signed a lease with the church to rent about half of the building's space.
