Police: Searcy man charged in two home invasions

A Searcy man was arrested after, police say, he broke into two homes on the same street in a three-day span.

Police said 29-year-old John Miles forced his way inside a residence at the 500 block of Joyce Street on Jan. 16 while the home's owner was inside, according to a Searcy Police Department news release.

The female victim told police that she had heard a knock at the door, and when she opened it, a masked man carrying a pistol had pushed his way inside past her. The woman ran away from her home through the open door and to a neighbor's home to call 911. Miles fled the home before officers arrived, police said.

Officers were called to a second residential burglary report on Jan. 19 at a home on the same street as the first home invasion, the release states. A 19-year-old woman was inside of the residence when she heard glass break, the police department's spokesman Cpl. Steve Hernandez told Arkansas Online.

After the woman called her mother to say "I heard somebody in the house," the mother notified Searcy police, according to Hernandez. Miles was in the home for about 90 seconds before police arrived and found him inside, Hernandez said.

Miley has been charged with residential burglary, aggravated residential burglary and theft of property, the news release states. He is being held at the White County jail on a $60,000 bond. He's due to appear in court on March 4.
