MovieStyle: Labor Day

By The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

This article was published January 30, 2014 at 11:02 a.m.

Labor Day, the latest movie from Jason Reitman — director of Juno, Up in the Air and Thank You For Smoking — is a tense and sensitive realization of Joyce Maynard’s novel about a kidnapping that turns into a love affair.

In other words, it’s a marked departure from the satire of his previous work. Our Philip Martin investigates the movie — and talks with Maynard about the inherent differences between books and movies — in Friday’s MovieStyle.

Martin also reviews Ralph Fiennes’ The Invisible Woman, while Dan Lybarger goes to see the year’s first raunchy sex comedy That Awkward Moment and reports back. And, as always, Karen Martin covers stay-at-home option in her Home Movies column.

Read tomorrow's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette MovieStyle for full reviews.
