Freezing precipitation possible in next week

Freezing precipitation is possible several times in the next week, the National Weather Service said Friday.

Parts of "extreme northern Arkansas" could see light freezing rain or sleet Friday morning, weather service Warning Coordination Meteorologist John Robinson said in an email.

Then on Sunday morning, a wintry mix is expected to develop over north Arkansas before turning to an accumulating snow there that night.

"Central Arkansas will probably see a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow," Robinson wrote. "Southern Arkansas should have rain, with maybe a little sleet mixed in. All in all, it appears that there will be some hazardous driving conditions in northern Arkansas, possibly extending down into central Arkansas."

Another system may bring ice to northern and possibly central Arkansas on Monday night into Tuesday, Robinson wrote, and then another chance for winter weather may come Thursday night into next Friday.

"This will probably take the form of snow in the north, snow or sleet in the central part of the state, and rain, freezing rain, or sleet in the south," Robinson wrote. "If things turn out as they look now, hazardous driving conditions could very well cover a substantial part of Arkansas."
