Get fireworked up for the Fourth

Bombastic celebrations of freedom are around the corner in central Arkansas. Independence Day is the time when we renew our vows to the Declaration of Independence and set off “illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more,” John Adams wrote.

Apparently, before the declaration was even signed, Adams foresaw a holiday commemorating it and a sky full of fireworks — from sea to shining sea.

Central Arkansans have an array of options for celebrating the nation’s official birthday.

First off, the celebration hosted by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Pops on the River. This free, all-day celebration touts a draw of over 30,000 people, making it the largest Independence Day celebration in the state. The event kicks off at noon in the River Market Pavilions with the Kids Pavilion, hosted by Arkansas Children’s Hospital; a classic car show; food trucks; and entertainment. The Air National Guard Band of the Southwest, Oh Say!
