Benton police: Arrest made in bank holdup

Authorities say they have apprehended a man who was armed with a gun when he robbed a bank in Benton on Tuesday morning.

Benton Police Department Lt. Kevin Russell said late Tuesday that a suspect had been arrested in Forrest City and that Benton detectives were on the scene. Police said they could not immediately release any further details and that the investigation is ongoing, Russell said.

Police say ithe Summit Bank at 1114 Arkansas 35 North was robbed about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.

The man "displayed a pistol towards a clerk" and fled the scene on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of cash, police said in a statement.

No injuries were reported.
