Though storms are expected in the southern part of the state Wednesday, forecasters are predicting a cool and dry Fourth of July weekend.

Isolated severe storms are possible throughout Wednesday into the early evening in the southern part of the state, ”south of a line from Glenwood to DeWitt,” National Weather Service meteorologist John Robinson said in an email. Some of the storms will drop heavy rain, he said.

Weather service meteorologist Lance Pyle said after a cold front moves through the state Wednesday, cooler, drier weather is expected throughout the weekend.

“A high-pressure system is coming in from the north, bringing cooler and drier air that will last through much of the weekend,” Pyle said. “Friday and Saturday should be cooler as far as the Fourth of July is concerned.”

Pyle said the cooler weather is expected to begin Wednesday night, with the low temperature in the low to mid-60s.

“It’s going to be a little cooler than it has been,” he said.

Forecasters expect the lows on Thursday and Friday to be in the low 60s, with the high temperatures in the mid-80s.

Temperatures will rise on Saturday and Sunday, Pyle said.
