A 66-year-old pilot from Oregon suffered "significant" injuries when his plane crashed in a field at the Harrison Airport, authorities said.
The Boone County sheriff's office said George Atiyeh, 66, was the only person on board the 1964 Piper Twin Comanche when it crashed shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday in the field on the west end of the runway.
The sheriff's office says it appears the plane had taken off from the runway north and was attempting to make a left turn when it went down.
Atiyeh, of Lyons, Ore., was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., and was initially listed in serious condition there.
The National Transportation and Safety Board will investigate the crash, the sheriff's office said.
