MovieStyle: Train to nowhere

This article was published July 3, 2014 at 10:24 a.m.

According to Hollywood, the July 4th weekend began on Wednesday this week, with the arrival of a half-dozen new movies in central Arkansas theaters.

The most notable among these is Snowpiercer, Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s English language review. It stars none other than Chris Evans, Captain America himself, as the leader of a disenfranchised rabble class relegated to the back of a nonstop train forever circling a frozen Earth who strikes back against the oppressive one-percenters who control the means of production. Our Philip Martin unpacks this socioeconomic allegory/environmental cautionary tale/sci-fi martial arts film in this week's MovieStyle.

Martin also takes on the politically fraught rom-com Obvious Child, while Piers Marchant weighs the virtues of Melissa McCarthy's latest, Tammy.

Dan Lybarger looks at Dinesh D'Souza's America: Imagine the World Without Her, and our Anna Gronewold checks out the tweenage buddy flick Earth to Echo. And if you're looking for a review of Deliver Us From Evil, the horror film starring Eric Bana, check our blood, dirt & angels blog. That film didn't screen in time for a review.
