New interchange to open on I-49 in Springdale

SPRINGDALE — A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for a new interchange on Interstate 49 in Northwest Arkansas.

The Don Tyson Interchange is set to open Monday afternoon in Springdale. City officials say the new interchange should help relieve traffic congestion on Sunset Avenue, which is the main road used to get into and out of Springdale from the interstate.

Fayetteville television station KHOG reported that the interchange is set to open after a ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

Construction on the $23 million interchange finished more than a month ahead of schedule. The interchange is named for the former president and chief executive officer of Springdale-based Tyson Foods Inc.
