Obama seeks $3.7 billion to deal with border kids

WASHINGTON — Tackling what he has called a humanitarian crisis, President Barack Obama on Tuesday asked Congress for $3.7 billion to confront a tide of minors from Central America who are illegally crossing the U.S. southern border, straining immigration resources and causing a political firestorm in Washington.

The White House says the money would help increase the detention, care and transportation of unaccompanied children, would help speed the removal of adults with children by increasing the capacity of immigration courts, and would increase prosecution of smuggling networks. It would increase surveillance at the U.S. border and help Central American countries repatriate border-crossers sent back from the United States.

The request for money did not include proposals for legislative changes that the White House wants. White House officials said Tuesday they still intend to work with Congress to increase the administration's authority to deport minor border crossers.

Administration officials say they are still working on ways to do it faster, but say that the request for specific legislative changes will move on a separate track than the emergency spending request Obama is sending to Congress on Tuesday.

Don't ask for additional money - billions of United States dollars - to care for noncitizens. Tell the Latin American countries that the United States is withdrawing all financial support from those countries and repurposing that money to deal with their illegal immigrants.

Obama has allowed this to happen and now the half of the country that actually pays taxes gets the bill. I agree with ydreher. Stop sending money to Mexico and Central America. This is just the beginning of the money that our pathetic President will be wanting for his illegal aliens.

He's kind of stuck--damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Bad situation all around.

The reason he cannot deport fast is the Bush era laws on the books. Look it up only if you want the truth.

Taxpayers could save $148 billion if the republican congress would bring S 744 up for a vote. The republican congress has refused to act… So money must not be an issue with them.

Unaccompanied minors fall under the bipartisan law, William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, which passed the House and Senate unanimously and was signed into law by President George W. Bush.
That law says the children cannot be sent back. They must instead be held humanely by the Department of Health and Human Services until the courts release them to a “suitable family member” in this country.
The child “shall be promptly placed in the least restrictive setting that is in the best interest of the child,” the law stipulates. “Placement of child trafficking victims may include placement in an Unaccompanied Refugee Minor program … if a suitable family member is not available to provide care.”
If this do nothing republican congress wants these children treated differently and sent back, then congress must change the law.

It's Bush's fault in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1......And just like that, FSM, President Emeritus of the Arkansas Chapter of the Useful Idiots of America, blames GW Bush.
So, FSM, how long have those Bush laws been on the books and how long has this sudden influx of illegal aliens been taking place? Only a useful idiot would fail to recognize the correlation between Obama's DREAM Act and this illegal rush to America. This didn't happen by accident. There are community organizers across Central America facilitating and organizing the mass illegal migration knowing full well the intent of the Obama Administration is to keep as many illegals on American soil as possible. The Obama Administration was fully aware of the Bush era laws and orchestrated the current illegal migration of women and children as a backdoor means to amnesty. Ask yourself, FSM, if the Bush era laws have been on the books for many years, why the massive influx of illegals just now? The answer, of course, is it because we have a community organizer as POTUS well versed in these types of activities.

Let's see…. Spend $3.7 billion or spend $158 billion. And the REPUBLICANS say,
"$158 billion."
Ladies and gentlemen, $158 billion it is.
