Members of the Shelby County sheriff's fugitive apprehension team arrested Marcus Brown, whose age was unknown, at the Welcome Inn at 5225 Summer Ave. in northeast Memphis at 10 a.m. Monday, said Matthew Keaton, a sheriff's office spokesman.

West Memphis police sought Brown on a charge of first-degree murder.

Details of the shooting, including the victim's name, were not known Tuesday. West Memphis Police Chief Donald Oakes did not return a telephone call early Tuesday evening.

Keaton said Brown was apprehended less than 24 hours after the fatal shooting. He said Brown was quickly arrested with no problems.

Brown is awaiting extradition from the Shelby County jail in Memphis to West Memphis, Keaton said.
