MovieStyle: Dawn of a new day

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the latest in wildly popular Planet of the Apes series, which began with Rod Serling’s 1968 adaptation of a French novel by Pierre Boulle that spawned no fewer than four sequels and an unfortunate Tim Burton remake in 2001 before 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, written by husband-and-wife team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, revived the series with a surprise success.

Dawn continues with the story of Caesar (played brilliantly by Andy Serkis, says our reviewer Piers Marchant), the young, extremely intelligent chimpanzee who started as a beloved lab pet and end up successfully leading the apes out of the city and into the woods outside San Francisco. The latest effort which picks up the story 10 years later.

MovieStyle editor Phil Martin also reviews Keira Knightley’s new movie, Begin Again, and the documentary Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia in tomorrow’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette MovieStyle.
