New programming director for Hot Springs film fest

HOT SPRINGS — The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival has announced its new programming director.

Film critic and journalist Lauren Wissot will join the festival and collaborate with festival executive director Courtney Pledger to bring documentary films from across the world to Arkansas.

This year's film festival will take place Oct. 10-19 at the Arlington Hotel in town.

The film festival is an Academy Award-qualifying festival and is attended by documentary film lovers, filmmakers and noted special guests.

This year, the festival celebrates its 23rd edition as the longest running, all-documentary festival in North America.

Highlights from last year's festival included a visit from the Beatles' longtime personal secretary and friend Freda Kelly, as well as from Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated actress Tess Harper, among others.
