Officer involved in shooting ID'd

The Jefferson County sheriff's office on Wednesday released the name of a criminal investigator involved in a restaurant shooting in Pine Bluff last week.

Randy Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the force and a member of a special investigations unit, has been placed on paid administrative leave in the Saturday shooting of Dedric Jones at Swann's Bar & Lounge.

According to a sheriff's office news release, Jones, 36, suffered a single gunshot wound in his chest outside the establishment. A witness called 911, and police were dispatched about 3:30 a.m to 3003 W. Pullen St. in Pine Bluff.

An ambulance took Jones to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.

The sheriff's office has not determined whether Jackson, who was uninjured, acted while on or off duty, spokesman Maj. Lafayette Woods said.

Jackson will remain on paid leave pending a review by the agency's Internal Affairs Division. In a separate investigation, a Jefferson County prosecutor will decide if the evidence warrants criminal charges against Jackson.

Jackson was not reached for comment; the Jefferson County sheriff's office said it cannot release its employees' personal information.
