Rogers police: DWI enforcement still in effect

ROGERS — The Rogers Police Department is cautioning motorists that its special DWI enforcement and speeding program is still in effect.

Local police have been participating in both programs since June 28. The special enforcement program is designed to promote safe travel during the holiday and summer season. The program will continue until Monday.

Officials say there were 552 traffic fatalities on Arkansas roads in 2012. Twenty-six percent, or 143 of those fatalities, involved a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher.

Speeding was a contributing factor in 76 of the total fatalities, or almost 14 percent, officials said.
