Man killed, another hurt in Pine Bluff shooting

A man was fatally shot and another injured in a shooting late Monday night in northwest Pine Bluff, and a suspect has been arrested in Memphis, authorities said Tuesday.

It happened about 11:15 p.m. at a duplex at 107 Wildwood Cove, where one man had been shot and was lying in the front yard and another was lying on the living room floor, according to a Pine Bluff Police Department report.

Brian Almond, 43, of Rison was dead inside the duplex, where it appeared he had been shot in the face, according to the report

Clayton Hodges, 34, of Pine Bluff was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff for treatment of gunshot wounds in his forearm and chest. His condition was not clear Tuesday morning.

When police arrived, Hodges told officers that he had been shot by Michael David Kelly, 38, who goes by the street name "Little Buddy," according to the police report. Hodges said Kelly had tried to rob him. "I think he shot my buddy, too," he told officers.

A small, black semiautomatic handgun was lying on the floor next to Almond, and a neighbor said he saw a small, gray car leaving the scene at high speed, police said.

Kelly has been arrested on a first-degree murder charge by the Memphis Police Department, Lt. David E. Price of the Pine Bluff Police Department said Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at (870) 730-2090 or (870) 541-5300.
