NLR man charged in theft of copper

A North Little Rock man whom police reportedly saw selling stolen copper wire at a recycling center was arrested Monday.

An officer pulled over a Dodge pickup about 3:50 p.m. at 2121 Arkansas 161. Two men inside the vehicle had previously been seen breaking into a North Little Rock Electric Department facility at 830 N. Palm St. and stealing a spool of copper wire at least 250 feet long, according to an arrest report.

An officer reported seeing the men sell the wire at Tenenbaum Recycling Group, 4500 W. Bethany Road, the report says. The wire was valued at $232.35, according to police.

Evan Dobbins, 23, was charged with breaking or entering.

He was not listed on the Pulaski County jail roster late Monday. The jail has turned away nonviolent offenders since July 1 because of overcrowding.

It was unclear whether the second man in the truck was arrested.
