Arkansas Achievers

Delaney Mattox of Little Rock and Joseph Mahony of Maumelle have been awarded Honors Day scholarships for the 2014-15 academic year to attend Lyon College.

Jasmin Harris had been awarded a Red and Gray Leadership Scholarship to attend Henderson State University. She is a graduate of Little Rock Central High School and the daughter of Tracy Harris.

Tadaisha Webb has been awarded a Red and Gray Leadership Scholarship to attend Henderson State University. She is a graduate of Parkview High School and the daughter of Betty Wright.

Ben Gander of Beech Grove, a junior in the College of Agriculture and Technology at Arkansas State University, has been awarded the Jim Sloan Memorial Scholarship. He is a graduate of Greene County Tech High School and plans to earn a master's degree and teach high school agriculture after he graduates.

Darcy Pumphrey, a University of Arkansas at Little Rock graduate, has received the 2014 Lucille Westbrook Award from the Arkansas Historical Association. The award recognizes the best article or manuscript on an aspect of local Arkansas history and includes a $1,000 prize. Pumphrey, who has a Master of Arts in public history, is being recognized for her article "Too Little, Too Late: Why the Resistance Movement to the Building of Little Rock's I-630 Failed."

Collin Whitney of Searcy has been awarded the Williams Baptist College Trustee Scholarship. Whitney is a graduate of Searcy High School and plans to major in Christian ministries. He is the son of Brian and Jana Whitney.

Patricia Esperon of Mountain Home has been awarded a Phi Thea Kappa New Century Scholarship and a Phi Thea Kappa International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute Scholarship. She is a criminal justice major.

Josh Chiles of Benton has been awarded a President's Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. He is a graduate of Catholic High School and the son of Ross and Jill Chiles.

Jessica Arias of Rogers has been awarded the Ronda Tidd Memorial Scholarship to attend Pittsburg State University. She is a graduate of Rogers High School and the daughter of Fabian and Iris Arias.

Samantha Hawking of North Little Rock has received a Second Century Scholars award from Arkansas Tech University beginning with the fall 2014 semester. She is a graduate of North Little Rock High School and the daughter of Jeananne and Michael Hawking.

Brooke Miller of Bigelow has received a Distinguished Scholars award from Arkansas Tech University beginning with the fall 2014 semester. She is a graduate of Bigelow High School and the daughter of Tony and Jennifer Miller.

Jukurious Davis of Helena-West Helena has been named to the 2014 class of College Scholars by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. High school seniors with unmet financial need receive up to $30,000 per year for four years to attend an accredited college or university.
