Bull Shoals police chief on trial for excessive force

HARRISON — A trial has begun for the chief of the Bull Shoals Police Department, who is accused of using excessive force against a suspect.

The Baxter Bulletin reported that prosecutors allege Daniel Sutterfield kicked and beat a domestic abuse suspect with a shotgun and threw him into a fireplace.

Sutterfield is charged with depriving Nicholas Dore of his rights and attempting to cover up the incident by ordering fellow Bull Shoals officer David Chatman to write a false report.

The trial began with testimony from Dore's live-in girlfriend and Chatman Tuesday and continues Wednesday.

Defense attorney Bruce Eddy said in opening statements that he would prove Sutterfield's innocence to the jury.
