Drawing Invitational

A 6 p.m. lecture and a 6:30-8:30 p.m. member reception mark today's opening of the "12th National Drawing Invitational: Outside the Lines" exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center in MacArthur Park, East Ninth and Commerce streets, Little Rock.

The exhibition of entries from eight mid-Atlantic artists opens to the public at 10 a.m. Friday in the Arts Center's Winthrop Rockefeller Gallery and Foyer and will remain on display through Oct. 5. At noon Friday in the gallery, Baltimore artist and teacher Gary Kachadourian will speak about his work in the exhibition for "Feed Your Mind Friday." Admission to the lecture is free; sign up at the center's Stephens Inc. Visitors Center.

Cabot magic carpet

Youngsters ages 4-18 will sing, dance and act as the Central Arkansas Performing Arts Academy will stage Aladdin Jr. (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, book adapted and additional lyrics by Jim Luigs, based on the 1992 Disney film Aladdin) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday at the academy's Playhouse Children's Theater, 2061 W. Mannerly comedy

The Lantern Theatre and Conway Community Arts will stage Mrs. Mannerly by Jeffrey Hatcher at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and July 25-26 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and July 27 at the Lantern Theatre, 1021 Van Ronkle St., Conway.

Little Shop tryouts

The Studio Theatre will hold auditions for the roles of Audrey, the Urchins and Orin only, for the musical Little Shop of Horrors -- music by Alan Menken, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman -- 7-10 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 320 W. Seventh St., Little Rock.

Prepare 16 bars of a song and take sheet music for the accompanist; the audition will also include cold readings from the script.

McCrory tour

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's July "Walks Through History" tour will cover the McCrory Commercial Historic District at McCrory (Woodruff County), starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raney Park, Second and Jackson streets.
