The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce has invited U.S. Senate candidates Mark Pryor and Tom Cotton to participate in a televised debate in October.
The invitation was sent out Wednesday to the senatorial candidates by Steve Clark, president and chief executive officer of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.
The debate is scheduled for Oct. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Clark said the debate will be televised on 40/29 KHBS-KHOG, an ABC affiliate in northwest Arkansas.
Pryor’s campaign announced in a statement Thursday that the U.S. Senator has accepted the invitation to the Fayetteville debate.
David Ray, spokesman for the Cotton campaign, said Cotton hasn’t confirmed his participation in the Fayetteville debate just yet.
“I am reaching out to Steve Clark of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce to discuss this with them, and I still want to know when Sen. Pryor will give an answer to the other three Arkansas television stations that have offered debates that we have accepted,” David Ray, spokesman for the Cotton campaign, said.
Ray said the Cotton campaign has accepted three televised debate invitations from KAIT in Jonesboro and KARK/FOX 16 and KATV in Little Rock.
“Arkansans deserve this debate, and I commend Congressman Cotton for his willingness to stand before voters and finally answer for his irresponsible votes to turn Medicare over to the insurance companies, eliminate affordable student loans and deny disaster relief for devastated communities at the urging of his out-of-state billionaire backers,” Pryor said in a statement.
Clark said the candidates will be asked to address economic development and job creation, education and transportation in the Fayetteville debate.
