Texan charged in Harding Student's death to appear in court

SEARCY — A Texas man who has been charged in an Arkansas woman's death is expected to appear in court later this month.

The Daily Citizen reported that a July 28 hearing will be held in Texas for 30-year-old Christian Ivan Bautista, who's facing a first-degree murder charge in the 2013 death of 24-year-old Lauren Bump.

Bump, who had family in the San Antonio, Texas, area, attended Harding University in Searcy. Police say her body was found on New Year's Eve in a Texas park.

A message left with Bautista's attorney Richard Timothy Molina wasn't immediately returned Thursday.

The hearing will be an opportunity for both the prosecution and Bautista's attorney to file motions.

Bautista is being held in Bexar County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
