CHRIS HENRY : ROSE BUD

For the past eight years, Chris Henry has participated in three sports every year. So it’s no surprise the Rose Bud graduate wants to have a career in athletics.

“I’ve been working some pee-wee sports for a long time and I enjoy working with kids,” Henry said. “I like football the most, but I like a wide range of sports. I just enjoy sports in general.”

Henry played football, basketball and baseball for the Ramblers. As a wide receiver and cornerback, Henry was on the field almost every snap. He was the starting point guard for Rose Bud’s basketball team and was the shortstop and leadoff batter for the baseball team.

“Ever since I was in the fifth grade, I’ve been playing three sports,” Henry said. “I just grew up doing that, and that was what I was used to doing. I would finish one sport, and a week later I would be playing the next sport.”

But at 5-7, 145 pounds, playing at the next level wasn’t likely. This fall, Henry will attend the University of Arkansas and will major in kinesiology. His goal is to eventually become a high school coach.

“I enjoyed the contact, but I was always the little guy,” Henry said. “I was always going against bigger guys than me.

“It’s going to be real sad, not being able to play anymore, but I want to be involved in athletics and I know I’ll have to be flexible. I may plan to do something, but God may send me on a different path.”

Henry had other interests while in high school. He was part of his school’s state championship horticulture team. He also scored well in his math classes.

“Math was my favorite,” Henry said. “Science didn’t always thrill me, but I did well in anatomy because I easily understood it.”
