EVAN MUNRO : HOT SPRINGS LAKESIDE

After a stellar career in the classroom and on the soccer field at Hot Springs Lakeside, Evan Munro has decided to head for the mountains.

Munro will attend the University of Denver this fall and work towards a degree in mechanical engineering.

“My aunts went there,” Munro said, explaining his connection with the college. “I really enjoy a lot of outdoor sports, so I was looking for some place that was in the mountains where I could have a little fun when I’m not in class or studying.”

Munro said he plans to do his fair share of snowboarding, but he insists his degree will come first.

“Math and science have always been my strong suits,” Munro said. “I like to be involved with challenging classes.”

Munro compiled a 4.25 grade-point average and finished second in a class of 208. As a sweeper and forward for the Rams’ soccer team this season, Munro scored 26 goals.

Munro played soccer all four years at Lakeside. He started three of those years.

“One of the things I’m most pleased with is that I was on teams that reached the state championship game three times,” Munro said. “We never won it all, but I don’t think there’s a lot of people who can say they played in three state title games.”
