Meeting Cancellation

CONWAY — The Conway AARP Chapter will not meet Monday because the Conway Senior Wellness Center at 1620 Donaghey is closing. The center will move to 705 E. Siebenmorgen Road.

Common Core Townhall

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Tea Party will hold a Common Core Townhall meeting at 7 p.m. at the McGee Center, 3800 Prince St. The meeting will offer an opportunity for the public to hear both sides of the Common Core issue.

Adult Softball Registration Deadline

RUSSELLVILLE — The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday to register teams for the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department’s Adult Fall Softball League. Teams that register must pay the entry fee and submit an entry form and a team roster. Treasure Island the Musical

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Youth Theater will present Treasure Island the Musical at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday. The performances will be at the Little Scholars Academy of Maumelle Theater, 112 Audubon Drive. Tickets are $5.

Faulkner County Singing Convention

GREENBRIER — The 2014 Faulkner County Singing Convention will be held Friday and Saturday at LifeSong Baptist Church, 56 S. Broadview. Singing will begin at 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, singing will begin at 10 a.m., break for lunch and start again at 1 p.m. This convention, started in 1879, and has met each year since. Singers, pianists and all who have an interest in gospel music are invited to attend.

World Championship Cardboard Boat Races

HEBER SPRINGS — The World Championship Cardboard Boat Races will start at 10 a.m. The theme is Keep Calm and Paddle On. The event will also feature a treasure dig, a watermelon-eating contest, a sandcastle-building contest and a sand-volleyball tournament.

The Little Mermaid Jr.

LESLIE — Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center. This children’s production is $5 for children 12 and younger, and $10 for adults. The production is by Red Curtain Theatre of Conway. Advance tickets are available at the Elk & Eagle Trading Post in Leslie and at Simmons Bank in Marshall. Sacred Heart Meat Sale

MORRILTON — Sacred Heart Catholic School is selling Petit Jean whole slow-smoked Boston butts (8-10 pounds) for $32 each and smoked pork ribs (4-4.5 pounds) for $26 each, just in time for Labor Day. The meat must be ordered by noon Aug. 14 and will be available for pickup from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Morrilton Packing House. Faulkner County Summer Concerts

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library announces its Summer Concert Series 2014, featuring local performers at 2 p.m. Sundays: Jeff Clanton, today; the Conway Symphony Orchestra, July 27; The Boomers, Aug. 3; folksimile, Aug. 10; and Men of Fire, Aug. 17. The concerts will be held in the “parklike setting” of the interior of the library, with ice cream and lemonade provided. The series is supported by Friends of the Faulkner County Library. Business Startup Boot Camp

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center is presenting a Business Startup Boot Camp on Tuesday evenings in July. Two more workshops designed to help entrepreneurs start and market their new business will be held: Free and Local: Small Business Marketing, Tuesday; and Introduction to Social Media Marketing, July 29. Augsburg Fall Fest Booth Applications

AUGSBURG — JoAnn Dorn, arts, crafts and vendor booth chairwoman, is taking applications for booth spaces for the seventh annual Augsburg Fall Fest, to be held Oct. 11 at Zion Lutheran Church at the intersection of Arkansas 333 and Augsburg Road. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the River Valley Free Christian Clinic and the Augsburg Food Pantry.

Holiday Puppets Family Show

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Holiday Puppets will perform at 11 a.m. every Wednesday during the summer at the Puppet Playhouse in the post office building. The 45-minute show features Punch and Judy, Dudley the Magnificent Magician and The Cat Came Back shadow puppets. The family show is free and open to the public.

Arkansas Notary Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present two sessions of the Arkansas Notary Workshop on July 31 at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Notaries verify signatures on legal and business documents to deter fraud and ensure the proper execution of these documents. The Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office will walk participants through the application process, assist them in understanding issues facing notaries, and outline best practices and procedures for current and future notaries public. Music Festival

LESLIE — The Rackensack Folklore Society Salutes Local Music Heritage will held at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center, 410 Oak St. Admission is free, but donations will be taken for the center. The night of music will pay tribute to Jimmy Driftwood, Frankia Stills Treat, Elton Britt, and fiddlers Absie and Abbie Morrison. Reality-Based Leadership Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will present Reality-Based Leadership from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 at Arkansas Tech University. Loretta Cochran, associate professor of management at ATU, will discuss concepts based on the book Reality-Based Leadership: Ditch the Drama, Restore Sanity to the Workplace, and Turn Excuses into Results, by Cy Wakeman. The workshop is suited for anyone who works in management or wants to do so. The cost is $99 per person, with an early-bird fee of $79 through July 31.
