Ko tops $1 million

Lydia Ko, 17, broke free from a late tie with So Yeon Ryu, hitting a wedge to 4 feet for birdie on the 72nd hole Sunday to win the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio. Ko became the youngest player to top $1 million in career earnings on the LPGA Tour. Ryu had made in a big-breaking, 25-foot birdie putt on the 17th to pull even, but Ko stuck her approach at the par-5 closing hole and calmly rolled in the birdie putt for a 6-under 65 that left her at 15-under 269. It was her second LPGA victory as a pro to go with the two Canadian Open titles she grabbed as an amateur. Ryu pushed a 6-footer at the 18th that would have forced a playoff. Stacy Lewis (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 1-under 70 in the final round and finished tied for 25th at 6-under 278.

m Steve Wheatcroft birdied the first playoff hole Sunday to defeat Steven Alker and win the Web.com Boise OPen at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho. Wheatcroft shot a 6-under 65 and finished at 24-under 260 to earn his second career victory on the tour. Alker, the third-round leader, shot a 4-under 67. Glen Day (Little Rock), who began the final round tied for sixth, struggled with a 5-over 76 and finish tied for 42nd at 274. He earned $2,807.

Wozniacki stops Vinci

Caroline Wozniacki overpowered second-seeded Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday to win the Istanbul Cup final and clinch her first WTA title of the year and 22nd overall. The top-seeded Dane needed only 67 minutes against the 24th-ranked Italian. Wozniacki won 76 percent of points on her first serve -- compared to just 43 percent for Vinci -- and saved all six break points at the hard-court Koza World of Sport Complex. Vinci was broken five times in the match and lost her last three service games. Now ranked 15th, Wozniacki's victory in Istanbul came just hours before golfer Rory McIlroy won the British Open by two strokes at Royal Liverpool. After getting engaged to Wozniacki on New Year's Eve, McIlroy broke off the engagement in May with a telephone call. About a week after, Wozniacki exited the French Open in the first round.

• Argentina's Leonardo Mayer upset top-seeded David Ferrer of Spain 6-7 (3), 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the Hamburg Open final on Sunday to win his first ATP title. The 46th-ranked Mayer saved five of the eight break points he faced and converted five of his seven chances to beat the seventh-ranked Spaniard in the clay court tournament. Mayer had not dropped a set in five matches to reach the final while Ferrer had been bidding for his 22nd title.

Bourdais, Conway win

Sebastien Bourdais won the first race and Mike Conway won the second race Sunday after rain on Saturday forced IndyCar to cram its weekend doubleheader into one day in Toronto. The series had planned to run one race each day, but thunderstorms plagued the entire weekend and forced the series to run both races Sunday. Bourdaisbroke a 52-race losing streak that dated to 2007, claiming a dominating victory on the dry street course in the opener at Exhibition Place. IndyCar points leader Helio Castroneves was second and Tony Kanaan in the first race. Rain returned for the second race, and IndyCar officials moved the start up 10 minutes in an attempt to run as much as possible in dry conditions. The sky eventually opened, the track became slick and drivers darted to pit road for rain tires. Once the track began to dry, Conway gambled and made an early stop to remove his rain tires. A caution minutes later sent the bulk of the field to pit road to change their tires, and Conway shot up the leaderboard on his way to victory. The race, which had been scheduled to run 65 laps or 80 minutes then became a timed race. A multicar accident stopped the clock for a cleanup with 4 minutes, 32 seconds remaining and set up one final restart. Conway pulled away on the restart and easily held off Kanaan. Will Power finished third as Chevrolet swept the podium in both races.

• Nico Rosberg won the German Grand Prix on Sunday to stretch his lead in the Formula One drivers' championship over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished third after starting 20th. Hamilton, who crashed in qualifying and survived a number of scrapes throughout the race, could not pass Valtteri Bottas in the closing laps and the Finn took second to give Williams its 300th F1 podium finish. Hamilton was pushed back to the penultimate row of the grid because of his qualifying crash and a penalty for changing his gearbox but threaded his way through the field despite a broken front wing caused by a collision with former teammate Jenson Button of McLaren. His super-soft tires wore quickly in his final stint and he did not have the grip to get past Bottas. Rosberg leads Hamilton by 14 points going into next weekend's race in Hungary. Four-time defending champ Sebastian Vettel was fourth, ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso who won his exciting battle with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo for fifth.

J.R. Todd earned his first Top Fuel victory of the season and first since 2008 by winning Sunday at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo. Todd outran Brittany Force with a pass of 3.878 seconds at 317.87 mph to the losing pass of Force at 3.968 at 297.35. It was the second victory at Bandimere Speedway for Todd, who claimed his first career NHRA Drag Racing Series victory at the facility in 2006. Robert Hight (Funny Car), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were winners in their respective categories at the NHRA Drag Racing Series event outside of Denver.

Bucks get Marshall

The Milwaukee Bucks have been awarded the contract of Kendall Marshall, the second-year guard who was waived last week by the Los Angeles Lakers. Marshall appeared in 54 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 8.0 points, 8.8 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He shot 39.9 percent from three-point range. He'll be reunited in Milwaukee with Bucks forward John Henson, his teammate at the University of North Carolina. Phoenix drafted Marshall with the 13th pick in the 2012 draft. He was traded to Washington with Marcin Gortat and two other players for Emeka Okafor and a draft pick. The Wizards waived him, and he played seven games in the NBA D-League before the Lakers called him up.

Dareus fails test

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is missing the start of training camp after failing his conditioning test. Coach Doug Marrone provided the update Sunday before the Bills' first practice in suburban Rochester. Marrone said trainers will work with Dareus to get him in shape so that he can be cleared for practice as soon as possible. Marrone declined to say whether he's disappointed, but added he preferred his players reported for camp ready to go. Dareus was placed on the active/non-football injury list Saturday. It's the latest offseason setback for the 2011 first-round draft pick. He faces drug possession charges in Alabama after being arrested in May. Four weeks later, he was charged with reckless endangerment after crashing his 2012 Jaguar during an alleged car race outside Buffalo.
