Pavement improvements scheduled for U.S. 67

U.S. 67 will require overnight lane closures between Jacksonville and Cabot starting Wednesday as crews work to patch and rehabilitate the road's surface, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The highway will be reduced to one lane during overnight hours until the end of the year, said Jeff Whatley, a department spokesman. Southbound closures with occur between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. and northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. No work will take place on Sundays between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.

Whatley said the improvements will help extend the pavement life and improve ride quality while the department waits to begin a major widening project, set to begin in the next few years.

“The roads would be really bad if we waited until then,” he said. “This is just a Band-Aid.”

Traffic on the highway will be controlled using barrels and warning signs, and motorists are asked to be cautious when traveling through the area.
