FORT SMITH — Fort Smith police say they have arrested a man who confessed to stabbing his pregnant girlfriend to death.
Fort Smith Police Department Sgt. Daniel Grubbs said 21-year-old Douglas True called 911 just before noon Sunday. Grubbs said True told police he believed he committed a serious crime and wanted to turn himself in.
Grubbs said the body of 22-year-old Briana Butler was found lying on the floor of the bathroom. He said she was near or at mid-term of her pregnancy.
A knife was found at the residence that police believe was used as a weapon. True has been charged with two counts of capital murder.
Authorities didn't know whether True has an attorney. He is being held at the Sebastian County jail without bail.
