U.S. 67/167 lanes to close this week

A temporary fix for a section of U.S. 67/167 between Jacksonville and Cabot will require overnight lane closures that will begin Wednesday and last for the balance of the year, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews will be patching and rehabilitating the highway from just north of Main Street in Jacksonville to Arkansas 5 in Cabot. The project is designed to extend pavement life and improve ride quality until a major widening project begins in a few years. The work is being done under a $2.7 million contract awarded earlier this year to Chester Bross Construction Co. of Hannibal, Mo.

The work will reduce traffic to one lane in both directions most nights, weather permitting. Southbound lane closures will last from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. Northbound traffic will be limited to one lane from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. No work will take place on Sundays, the department said.

Work also will begin next month on a project to replace the Main Street and Redmond Road overpasses on U.S. 67/167 in Jacksonville under a $41 million contract awarded earlier this year to the James Construction group of Baton Rouge, La.

The new bridges and roadways between the bridges will be three lanes in each direction. Work is scheduled to begin in mid to late August and should be complete by early 2016, the department said. Limited overnight lane closures will be needed in the beginning of the project, but otherwise, two lanes of travel will be maintained in each direction throughout the construction process.
