The Oxo Grape and Tomato Cutter won't save you any time, but it might save your fingers -- if you're prone to knife accidents. Or if you have a little one helping out in the kitchen, the tool is a safer alternative to a knife when used with adult supervision. The cutter's sharp, serrated, stainless-steel blades are supposed to quickly and easily slice through the fruit's skin and flesh, creating neat little quarters. And this was the case with grapes, but when we tried the cutter with tomatoes from our neighborhood farmers market, we ran into problems. First, most of our small, football-shaped tomatoes were too big to fit easily in the chamber, and the ones that did fit tended to burst before the blades were able to cut through the skin. We did not have this problem with thin-skinned supermarket tomatoes. The cutter includes a snap-on cover for storage and disassembles for easy cleaning. Top-rack dishwasher safe.
